Laton Thompson, Jr., 85, of Tifton passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Thompson at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Rev. Steve Tucker will officiate.
Mr. Thompson was born June 18, 1929 in Daytona Florida, the son of Laton Thompson, Sr. and Anna Florence Thompson, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by his second wife, Sandra Behr Thompson; a son, Laton Thompson, III; and two sisters. He retired from the Dade County Sheriff’s Department after 21 years of service and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his first wife, Martha Simmons Harper of Tifton; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sharon and Mike McBrayer of Tifton, MiMi and Charles Cope of Tifton, Deana Goodman of Tampa, Florida and Gerri and Allan Lutes of Livingston, Montana; two sisters, Ruth Aubrey of Florida and Joan Bland of Metter; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
