Obituary

Guy Gendron passed away peacefully at the Palmer Healthcare Center on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the age of 89. Guy was born in Magog Quebec, CANADA on January 28, 1926 to the late Martial and Alberta (Buzzell) Gendron. He was the 2nd of 5 children. In his youth he played hockey, baseball, trumpet, and drums in concert and in a marching band. On October 29, 1955, he married Madeleine LeBlond at the Immaculate Conception Church in Sherbrooke, Quebec CANADA. They immigrated to Easthampton, MA where he began his long career driving trucks, working hard to provide a good life for his family. After 6 years, they built a home in Chicopee, MA. Guy was a 4th Degree and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus (K of C Elder Council 69 in Chicopee). He volunteered thousands of hours supporting the efforts of the bingo staffs at the K of C and the parishes' of Assumption, St. Pats, and St Rose de Lima in Chicopee. Guy and Madeleine were proud to become US Citizens in 2005. Guy was an avid sports fan following the Bruins, Canadiens, Red Sox and other local teams. He leaves his devoted wife of 59 years, Madeleine (LeBlond) Gendron, daughter Diane Salstead and husband Robert, son Marc Gendron and wife Carolle, daughter Lisa Heckley and partner Laura McLain, and son-in-law Michael Heckley. He also leaves 7 grandchildren; Erik and Stephen Salstead, Sarah and Nicholas and Caroline Gendron, and Christopher and Shawn Heckley. The Gendron family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at the Palmer Healthcare Center for their kindness and caring during the time of Guy's waning health. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Grise Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Liturgy in St Rose de Lima Church at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in St Rose de Lima Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guy's memory to the Alzheimer's Association: www.alz.org or to Sunshine Village of Chicopee: www.sunshine.us.
