Obituary

LAWRENCE – Eugene L. “Gene” Lacroix, 85 of South Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 25, 2015 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill surrounded by his loving family.
Eugene was born on August 9, 1929 in Barton, Vermont and was the son of Leonard and Amanda (LeBeau) Lacroix. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. A 1948 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Gene was a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church in South Lawrence, prior to its closing. He was a member of Local 111 carpenters union, and for many years was employed as a finish carpenter with Carl E. Woekel Construction Company based in Methuen. Gene was also a golfer and senior member of Merrimack Valley Golf Club in Methuen, MA.
Gene leaves his wife of 61 years, Claire B. (Beaucage) Lacroix of Lawrence, MA. He is also survived by his three daughters, Gail Lacroix and her husband John Echois of Aurora, CO, Carol Afonso and her husband Sidney of Katy, TX and Donna Rousseau and her husband Edward of East Wakefield, NH; two sons, Steve Lacroix of West Palm Beach, FL and Donald Lacroix and his wife Karen O’Brien of Methuen, MA.
Two brothers, Robert Lacroix and his wife Evelyn of Methuen, MA and Normand Lacroix and his wife Pauline of Berwick, ME and one sister, Doris Thibodeau also of Methuen, MA. Nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Gene was predeceased by his four sisters, Anita Chocquette, Annette Morel, Yvette Arsenault and Lillian Walton.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice 360 Merrimack St. BLDG. 9 Lawrence, MA 01843. At Gene’s request there will be no visiting hours. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday at 11:00a.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00p.m. in St. Michael’s Church 196 Main St. North Andover, MA. Military honors will follow immediately outside of the church following the Mass.
