Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" Harty, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Life Care Center in Stoneham following an extended illness. He was 78 years old.

Bob was born in Boston on October 4, 1936, a son of the late Nicholas Harty and Anna F. (O'Brien) Harty. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1955. Bob worked for over 43 years for New England Telephone Company and retired as an Analyst in 1995. Bob also worked at The Boston Garden with the Bull Gang for many years and now the T.D. Garden as an usher and retired in 2012 after 50 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed spending his summers at Hampton Beach and above all else his family was his number one priority. Bob is a member of the Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus, The Bunker Hill Associates, The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, The New England Telephone Pioneers of America and he was an honorary member of The Daughters of Isabella # 1.

Bob is the adored husband of 58 years to Patricia A. "Pat" (Ahern) Harty. He is the devoted father of Bob Harty and his wife Frances of Reading, Kevin Harty of Charlestown, Karen Harty of Charlestown, Maryhelen Whelan and her husband David of Charlestown, Eileen Harty of Charlestown, Elaine Collins and her husband Mark of Charlestown and the late Patricia A. Harty. He is the loving Papa to Robert, James, Aidan, John, Aisling and Courtney. He is the beloved brother of Anne Callahan and her late husband Edward of Tewksbury, Margaret Rinaldi-D'Elia and her husband Peter of New Jersey, Helen Stanton and her husband Richard of Tewksbury, Richard Harty and his wife Barbara of Vermont and the late John Harty and Thomas Harty. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bob's Funeral on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
