Obituary

CHICOPEE – Virginia D. “Ginny” (DeChristopher) Giacomelli, 78, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, April 23, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on May 2, 1936, a beloved daughter of the late Frank and Genevieve (Mateja) DeChristopher. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Sacred Heart High School and lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Chicopee around 1967. She was last employed as a cashier at the Corner Store on Front and Bell Streets in Chicopee. During her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling, cooking and was an avid Patriots fan. During her younger years, she was a tap dancer and at one time auditioned with the New York City Rockettes. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Roger J. Giacomelli who was Called Home on March 18, 1986; her dear sister and brother-in-law, Doris Mack and her husband, Tommy; and her dear brothers-in-law of the Giacomelli family, Albert Giacomelli and Fred Lepkowski. She leaves her two devoted daughters, Tina G. Jones and her husband, Mitchell S. Jones, of Hamilton, OH and Debra N. Pray and her husband, Brian M. Pray, of Westfield; her three cherished grandsons whom she adored, Mitchell S. Jones, Jr. of Hamilton, OH and Brian R. Pray and Christopher J. Pray, both of Westfield; her dear brother, Louis DeChristopher of Feeding Hills; her dear sister-in-law of the Giacomelli family, Mary Lepkowski of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Giacomelli and DeChristopher families. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations may be made in her memory to Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen, 170 Pendexter Avenue, Chicopee, MA 01013.
