MASHPEE -- Janet Briggs Negus, 98, of Mashpee and formerly of New Bedford and South Dartmouth, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Harborside Healthcare. She was the widow of Stanley P. Negus Sr.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Jennie (Norton) Briggs and lived in South Dartmouth much of her life. In 1994, she moved to Woodbriar Assisted Living Facility in Falmouth and in the spring of 2003 took up residence in Mashpee.
In her earlier years, Mrs. Negus was an active member of the Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven and active in the Woman's Alliance and the Pilot Club.
She was an active member and volunteer with the St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary and served as its president in the 1970s. She was also a member of the New Bedford Mother's Club.
An avid bridge player, she was a talented needle-worker, enjoyed baking and cooking, and she loved and appreciated her family.
Survivors include two sons, Stanley P. Negus Jr. of Marstons Mills and Richard M. Negus of Cotuit; a daughter, Linda A. Cherry of Acworth, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Her memorial is at noon Friday in the Unitarian-Universalist Church, 102 Green St., Fairhaven.
Arrangements are by the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford.
