WORCESTER-Francis X. McGrath, 79 of 21 Conger Road, formerly of Flushing, NY died suddenly Wednesday, February 9th in UMass Hosptial after being stricken ill at home. His wife Helen M. (Tournquist) McGrath died in 1990. He leaves 3 sons, Thomas McGrath of Worcester, James McGrath of Ashby and William McGrath of Worcester, 2 daughters, Margaret Terrill and Patricia Barnard both of Worcester, 12 grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. His sister, Catherine DiBenedetto and brother, James J. McGrath predeceased him.
He was born in Flushing, NY the son of James J. and Catherine S. (Grein) McGrath and lived in Worcester for many years. He was a WWII Navy veteran and obtained a bachelor of science from the College of the Holy Cross. Mr. McGrath worked for many years as a regional account executive for R.T. French Company, until retiring in 1987. He was an active member of Christ the King Church, its St. Vincent DePaul Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was an active member of the Bishops Fund and spent many years involved in the Pro Life Movement.
The funeral is Monday, February 14th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday, February 13th, from 2:00 until 5:00 PM in the funeral home.
