Obituary

Eugene E. Peters Sr., 90, a life-long resident of Provincetown died peacefully at home, where he wanted to be, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Eugene’s health had been declining for some time, more so in the past several months. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Perry) Peters who died in November of 1997.

Eugene was born in Provincetown on Prince Street, the son of late Joaquin and Georgianna (Souza) Peters. Educated in the Provincetown School System, as a teen, he joined the Army and served his country proudly in WWII where he received a Purple Heart. After his service, he returned to Provincetown to raise his family and began work as a fishermen, which he did for many years.

In addition to fishing, Eugene worked as a fish packer for Seafood Packers and the Provincetown Co-Op. After several years, he became a fish cutter (known to be one of the best in the area) at Cape Cod Fish where he remained for many years, until illness struck both he and his wife, and forced him to retire.

Eugene enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and his daughter Deborah and their son Eugene, Jr. Eugene also enjoyed the time he shared with his grandchildren David, Joshua and Jeremy along with his great grandchildren Mia, Mackenzie and Josh Jr.

Eugene was a member of the St Peter the Apostle Church.

He is survived by his daughter Deborah and her husband Walter Gonsalves of Provincetown; a son Eugene and his wife Rachel Peters of Provincetown, his grandson David, his wife Hannah and their children Mia and Mackenzie Gonsalves of Truro; his grandson Joshua and wife Violet and their son Joshua Peters of Eastham; and grandson Jeremy Peters of Provincetown.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Monday, May 4, 2015 at St Peters the Apostle Church, 11 Prince Street, Provincetown, Mass. Burial will follow at St Peters Cemetery.
