Joaquim Araujo, 79, of New Bedford died Saturday April 18, 2015 suddenly at St. Luke's Hospital just hours prior to his eightieth birthday. He was the husband of Maria (Felipe DePina) Araujo.
Born on April 19, 1935 in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Julio daVeiga and Maria (Araujo) Fortes, he had lived in New Bedford since 1954.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Araujo was formerly employed as a machine operator at Columbia Electronics until his retirement.
He was a member of the Bisca Tournament Club.
Survivors include his wife; his siblings, Joao Araujo, Albertina DaRosa, and Constance Tavares, all of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Maria Gomes.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
