She was born May 3, 1922 in Corning, NY to the former New York Supreme Court Justice John Charles Wheeler and Martha Morgan Wheeler. Mish attended Abbott Academy and graduated Harcum College.

Mish was also predeceased by her sister Elizabeth W. Carpenter of Mystic CT, and her brother Richard M. Wheeler of Corning, NY.
Mish and Walter were married on May 27, 1944 in Corning NY, and settled in Springfield PA. The family maintained a summer residence in Groton Long Point CT from 1950-1980 as well as a residence at Great Harbor Cay, Berry Islands, Bahamas from 1970-2000.
Mish was an avid life long golfer, proudly claiming a hole-in-one on the back nine of Rolling Green Golf Course in Springfield, PA and was happy to play on courses from Misquamicut to Fisher’s Island and Lyford Cay to Highland Links. A true life long devotee of music, Mish sang in numerous choirs and would sit down and play at any piano, always claiming that she met her husband while she was wearing a red dress and playing boogie woogie in a bar. She loved a pit orchestra and could hear a key change coming down the street. A consummate hostess, Mish was delighted to have 40 friends for dinner or entertain 200 which she did for 15 years running at the annual Labor Day Dock Party at the family beach house.
Mish was well known for her lifelong skill at being a wonderful correspondent, taking great pride in being an expert typist, always keeping in touch with family, friends, and colleagues with thoughtful long letters, hilarious cards and notes. She also documented her life with endless Kodak cameras compiling some eighteen thousand photographs of family holidays, travels, and her vast circle of friends at constant gatherings. Always an animal lover, Mish had several horses, notably Fleetfoot and Sir Dunn. She also took great pride in training and showing her beloved Welsh corgis, TJ and Baron.
Mish was well known and loved for her ever present sense of humor, her unassuming grace and her perceptive wisdom. She maintained a strong faith throughout her lifetime, and possessed an acceptance and serenity when presented with life’s challenges. Mish adored Christmas, and at the drop of a hat was able to recite Twas the Nigh Before Christmas verbatim. When asked, only 3 days prior to her death, what the last word in the Bible was, Mish immediately answered Amen.
Her family and friends ask that you join them in saying Amen Mish, Amen. As per her request, her ashes will be scattered at Groton Long Point, CT at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Edmund’s Retreat at Enders Island, PO Box 399, Mystic, CT 06355.
