Obituary

Francis Tranes, 89, of Westport, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Eleanor (May) Tranes.
Born in Paterson, NJ, son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Veraski) Tranes, he had resided in Westport since 1977. Mr. Tranes was a high school football star and a graduate of Rutgers University. A WWII veteran, he served his country in the Unites States Navy on PT Boats as a Chief Petty Officer, radar technician. He worked as a C.P.A. and auditor in New York City, as the treasurer/comptroller of Hale Manufacturing, CT, as a private consultant, and the tax manager for Acushnet Co. Mr. Tranes was a Free Mason, Rotarian, member of the The Seashell Steppers Square Dance Club and past treasurer of the Westport Point United Methodist Church. During his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and playing the market. When his wife, Eleanor, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Frank was her caregiver.
Survivors, along with his wife, include his son, Frank R. Tranes and wife Eunice of Norwich, CT, his 2 daughters, Barbara T. Mills and husband Skip of Fairhaven and Elizabeth J.T. Nuyts and husband John of Westport, 1 sister, Amelia Stephens of NJ, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Tranes.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Westport Point United Methodist Church at 2 P.M.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westport Point United Methodist Church, 1912 Main Rd. , Westport Point, MA 02791 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
