Dr. John G. Stober, Sr. Veteran

Obituary

Dr. John G. Stober, Father, Husband, Veteran, Handicapper, and a good many other things, made a house call upstairs on Wednesday, April 15th, 2015. Born in Cleveland but quickly escaping, John joined the Navy in 1945, with 15 years of age and a forged birth certificate to his name. He served until 1948, at which point he set his sights on the medical profession, graduating first from the University of Kentucky Pharmacy School, and then top of his class from the University of Louisville Medical School. He also received an M.B.A in handicapping the horses, A B.A. in the stock market, and a Ph.D. in the right way to exclaim, “Nita!” with the perfect blend of exasperation and love. Among his life resumé a good many things stand out, joining and then becoming partner at the Jeffersontown Family Practice, serving as team doctor for Jeffersontown High School, holding court for years without fail on the backside for every Kentucky Derby. The list could fill volumes. But his proudest achievements were his 6 children and his wife Nita. Of his 84 years on this earth, over 64 were spent with Juanita, during which time he was known as Henry, Jack, and some other names not fit for print. Jack loved Nita, and she him, with everything the two of them had. He is survived by his aforementioned 6 children, Danny, David, Tom, Gail, Karen, and John Jr., 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his brother, Mike, sister, Maureen, and his forever loving wife, Juanita.
