Obituary

Eugene Frank Ayer, 93, of Preston, passed away peacefully at the Fairview Nursing Home, Groton on Tuesday, February 8, 2005.

He was born November 16, 1911 in Preston, CT, the son of the late Frank and Lucy Emily (Andrews) Ayer and spent his whole life in Preston. Mr. Ayer was predeceased by two brothers, Nathan Ayer and Raymond Ayer and two sisters, Lucy Crary and Alice Ames. He leaves several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ayer was a World War II veteran. He was a very generous person giving time and money to many projects at the Preston Schools, Preston Library, VFW, Long Society Senior Citizens, and other organizations and people of need. Mr. Ayer was also well known for his donations of pianos to many organizations and friends.

A graveside ceremony will be held at Preston City Cemetery (Rte 165 & 164) on Monday, February 13, 2005, at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The Rev. Rachel Dunn, Pastor of the North Stonington Congregational CHurch, will officiate. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Preston Veterans Memorial School, 325 Shetucket Turnpike, Preston CT 06365.
