Obituary

WEBSTER – Michael F. “Mickey” Mangan, 74, of 18 Emil St., died Monday, Feb. 7, in the St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Virginia C. (LaChance) Mangan; a sister, Mary L. and her husband Theodore R. Hencinski of Webster; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Pizzetti of Webster; 2 nephews, 2 nieces and 1 great nephew. He was predeceased by brother, John P. Mangan of Uxbridge, in 2004.

He was born in Dudley, a son of Michael and Mary (Galvin) Mangan and lived here most of his life. He graduated from Cole Trade High School in Southbridge and obtained and associates degree in Industrial Engineering from Worcester Junior College. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Mangan worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. for 33 years, retiring as the manager of its Danielson, CT store in 1992.

He was a selectman for the town of Webster from 1974 to 1991, and was presently serving as the chairman of the Board of Registrars. He was a member of St. Louis Church. He was a third degree member of the Webster-Dudley Knights of Columbus, Council # 228, where he served as Grand Knight for 5 years. He was a life member of the Webster Lodge of Elks # 1446 as well as a member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post # 184. He was a former member of the Webster-Dudley Golf Club and also the Thompson Raceway Golf Course. At one time he held memberships in several other local organizations. He was a people person.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, Feb. 17, in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wed., Feb. 16, at Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Louis School Endowment Fund or to St. Louis Church, both at 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570, or to a charity of one’s choice.
