Albert A. Mayall, 96, of New Bedford died Sunday February 6, 2005 at the New Bedford Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Mary Agnes (Towers) Mayall.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Alfred and Nora (Meehan) Mayall, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Mr. Mayall was formerly employed as a plumber for the U.S. Army Post Engineers at Fort Rodman until her retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Whaling City Post Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 166 in Fairhaven. He was a former member of the Robert Emmett Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. In his younger days, he played soccer for the Pirates and was Past President of the City Soccer League. He also served as the New England delegate to the United States Soccer Association.
Affectionately known by many as "Uncle Al", he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He enjoyed attending concerts, traveling, and playing cribbage at the Poirier Post.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis M. Mayall and his wife Michelle of Ozona, Florida, and Brian J. Mayall and his wife Karen of Fairhaven; a brother, John Mayall of Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Sean Mayall and Amanda Mayall and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Catherine Lawrence and James Meehan.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday February 9, 2005 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday February 8, 2005 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Rd., Cumberland, RI 02864.
