Martha Dixon Rekrut passed away peacefully on April 12th after a brief illness. She was born in Morristown, NJ and attended Verona schools. She graduated from Grinnell College (Grinnell, Iowa) in 1965, and went on to receive her M.Ed from Brown University and a PhD from University of Connecticut.
Marty, as she was known, married Myron Rekrut (d. 2006) and lived in Rhode Island their entire married life. She taught high school English for 40 years in Warwick, RI, and retired in 2008. Marty was an active bicyclist, fisher and gardener, and was actively involved with her church for many years.
Martha is survived by her brother, Dave Dixon, and sisters Leslie Cook and Susan Sample, as well as nieces Stephanie, Jennifer, Briana and Bethany. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 16th at 1pm in the Anderson Winfield Funeral Home. Internment will be private.
