Barbara T. White, 78, of Worcester formerly of Leicester died Friday, April 10th in St. Mary Health Care Center. Her husband of 52 years, Joseph J. White, Sr. died in 2012. She leaves two sons, Joseph J. White, Jr. and his wife, Kim of North Kingstown, RI and J. Kevin White and his wife, Julie of Paxton; two brothers, Robert W. Low and his wife, Joan of Gloucester and John R. Low and his wife, Jane of Morega, CA; a sister, Anne L. Cardenas and her husband, Robert of Framingham; five grandchildren, Zachary J., Benjamin J., Caitlyn M., Hayley C., and Anthony J. White and many loving nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, James J. Low, Jr. and a sister, Mary L. Landsman.
She was born in Melrose the daughter of James J. Low, Sr. and Ann (Dignan) Low and graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1958. In addition to being a tireless and loving spouse and mother, Barbara was an emergency room nurse for over 45 years at Hahnemann Hospital until its closing and then retired from UMASS Memorial Hospital in 2003. Over the years Mrs. White formed countless friendships with colleagues in the medical community in a career for which she had great passion. Barbara will be intensely missed by her family, her dear friends from her nursing experiences and her close friends from “The Lake”.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary Health Care Center for the exceptional care and compassion that Barbara received. They were Barbara’s second family where she found unconditional warmth and love.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 9:30 until 10:30 AM in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Dementia Unit at Saint Mary Health Care Center, 39 Queen Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
