O. Herve Fortin, age 86, and lifelong resident of New Bedford, died unexpectedly of natural causes Thursday, April 9, 2015 in New Bedford, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Ovila and Blanche (Handfield) Fortin.
Mr. Fortin was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Howland Chapter of the Veteran's association and served over 30 years in the Army National Guard. He was known for being a dedicated and generous family man and friend who enthusiastically served his church, community and country.
Mr. Fortin is survived by his wife and love of his life, Elaine (Chartier) Fortin; his brother Gilbert and wife, Irene; daughter Jane Vieira and husband Val; son Gary Fortin of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren, Katelyn Vieira and Max Fortin. Herve Fortin was a man of enormous heart who will be greatly missed.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18th at 1 PM in St. Lawrence Church. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 17th from 4-8 in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
