Bette (Paleologos) Archer, 84 of Salem, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Herrick House in Beverly following a long illness.
Born and raised in Watertown, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Comvotis) Paleologos. Bette received her Associates Degree from Boston University in 1950 and worked as executive secretary to the manager of the Aeromechanics Department for Raytheon in Bedford from 1951 through 1957.
Family responsibilities and health issues required her to leave Raytheon and devote her time to home life. From 1965 to ’67 she was secretary for the Engineering Department at Brown University and from 1971 through 1973 worked in the same capacity for LeBlanc Research Corp. in East Greenwich, RI. Bette next worked as Secretary to the Principal of East Greenwich High School. In 1975 she joined the staff of Community College of Rhode Island as an administrative assistant to the Registrar and with the reorganization of the college in 1977 her position was upgraded to Recorder/Scheduling Assistant which she held until her retirement in 1990.
Following her move to Salem, she became active in Healthlink working with Salem Power Plant officials to clean up emissions and she was a member of the Explorers Club of Salem. Bette loved traveling, art and was a voracious reader.
She is survived by 2 sons, David Archer of Lake Orion, MI, Steve Archer of Sharon, MA, a daughter Elaine Archer of Vermontville, NY, a brother, Milton Paleologos of Boynton, Beach, FL, a sister, Barbara Holmes of Marblehead, 4 grandchildren, Katherine Kelly of Manchester CT, Jacob and Anne Archer of Sharon, Troy Archer of Lake Orion, MI, as well as nieces and nephews, Jeff & Scott Holmes, Laurie Jill Fanning, Jonathan and Daniel Paleologos.
Relatives are invited to a Celebration of Her Life at the Hawthorne Hotel, 18 Washington Square West, Salem on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:30 P.M.
