Joseph R. Hegarty age 96 of Canton passed away April 5th at the South Shore Hospital. Born in Cambridge, he graduated from English High, Lawrence Academy in Groton and Boston College where he played on the football team. Joe was a superb athlete who played minor league baseball and was an avid tennis player and a member of the Weymouth Club. He worked as a Clothing Salesman for many years before retiring. Devoted husband of the late Beri (Newberry). Father of Thomas Hegarty of West Tisbury, Kenneth Mark Hegarty of Dorchester & Paula Sue Ruckhaus of Alaska. Also survived by 4 grandchildren. A private graveside service was held at Canton Corner Cemetery. Marine Corp Veteran WW II.
