Obituary

BRIDGEWATER - Belle W. (Burnham) Tufts, 98, of Bridgewater died Friday at the Bridgewater Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Everett B. Tufts.

Born in Gloucester on Sept. 19, 1906, she was a daughter of late Orvis S. and Sadie B. (Welch) Burnham.

Mrs. Tufts was a graduate of Bridgewater Academy, Class of 1924, where she won prizes for typing more than 90 words a minute.

She worked at Hanover Fireworks during World War II, and had also worked for various businesses as a secretary.

Mrs. Tufts had been a Bridgewater resident for more than 85 years.

She volunteered at the Burnell School in Bridgewater and also at the old Lakeville Hospital.

Mrs. Tufts was a former member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Club.

She is survived by three sons, Everett B. Tufts Jr. of West Bridgewater, Lawrence W. Tufts of New Hampshire and John B. Tufts of Bridgewater; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday from Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater. Burial will take place in the spring.

Visiting hours are Monday 3-5 p.m. in the funeral home.
