Stavrula Zarakotas, 92, of Manchester died January 30, 2005 at a local health care facility after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Kastraki, Greece on January 17, 1913, the daughter of Vasilios and Eprosine (Joanou) Zarakotas. She emigrated to the United States by way of Ellis Island in 1916.
Prior to retirement in 1977, she had been employed by Foster Grant Company.
She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
“Auntie” was a caring person who showed a genuine concern for others. She was a masterful Greek cook who enjoyed feeding all who came to her door. She kept her recipes, however, a mystery to both friends and family. She was pre-deceased by a brother Stephen Zarakotas and her sister Madeline Zarakotas.
Members of her family include three brothers, Vaios Zarakotas of Lowell, MA, Gregory Zarakotas and Spyros Zarakotas, both of Manchester; a nephew, William Zarakotas of Manchester; several other nephews and nieces in the Manchester area.
The funeral service was private. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
