Robert M. Tekin, 56, of Derry, NH, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry following a battle with cancer. Mr. Tekin was born in Bridgeport, CT on March 12, 1948, the son of Anthony and the late Marion (Murphy) Tekin. He grew up in Weymouth, MA graduating from Weymouth High School in 1966. After attending Northeastern University, he worked for Friendly Ice Cream Corp., managing stores in NJ, MD and on Cape Cod, MA. While living in Chatham, MA from 1976-1985, he began his career in the cable television industry. He moved to Derry in 1985, working for Continental Cablevision as general manager. He subsequently held management positions at Harron Cable and Cablevision, Inc.. Most recently, he was employed by Mortgage Central of Londonderry, NH.
Mr. Tekin was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, serving as a lector, eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, and youth minister. His ministry, and the testimony of his faith, touched the lives of many in the church community.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Teresa A. (Dlubac) Tekin of Derry, five sons, Matthew J. Tekin, Peter M. Tekin, Aaron J. Tekin, Adam R. Tekin, and Jason W. Tekin, all of Derry, his father, Anthony Tekin of Bridgewater, MA, one sister, Barbara Jensen of Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Marion (Murphy) Tekin in October of 2004.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday February 3rd at 11:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. Calling hours will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tekin Family Fund, C/O Bank North, 62 Nashua Road, Londonderry, NH 03053.
