Obituary

Jerome “Jerry” Albert Hanlon, 90, of Medway, died April 1 in the Medway Country Manor. He was the husband of Irene H. (Lubinski) Hanlon for the past 60 years.
Born in Milford, August 23, 1924, the son of the late Cornelius A. and Esther (McLeod) Hanlon, Mr. Hanlon was a lifelong Medway resident.
Mr. Hanlon was a 1942 graduate of Medway High School and attended Boston College.
Mr. Hanlon joined the Medway Fire Department in 1942 and became Chief of the Department in 1975, a position he held until his retirement in 1989.
Mr. Hanlon had also worked as a salesman for American LaFrance Fire Products and for the Steego Automotive Company.
In addition to his service to the Town of Medway in the Fire Department, he also served the Town as Civil Defense Director, and as a member of the Medway Housing Authority and Board of Registrars.
He was a life member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks and a member of the Kentucky Cornell’s.
Jerry was an avid sports fan of the Medway High School athletic teams, especially the football team.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Jerome E. Hanlon of Milford and his daughter Holly Davenport and her husband Bob of Norfolk.
He is also survived by his siblings, Therese Kenney of Hyannis, Eunice Hanlon of Medway, Bernard Hanlon of Quincy and Joseph Hanlon of Wellesley.
He was the brother of the late Rosemary VanRye.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, John, Brian, Lauren and Anne Marie.
His funeral will be held on Monday, April 6 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway at 9:00 followed by a funeral mass in St. Brendan’s Church, Bellingham, at 10:00.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Medway.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 5- 8 p.m.
