Barbara E. (Nelson) Roderiques, 76, of New Bedford died March 31, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital unexpectedly.
She was the wife of James Roderiques.
Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Christiano and Dominga Evelyn (Rebeiro) Santos, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Roderiques was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
She was formerly employed with the Human Relations Commission for the City of New Bedford.
Mrs. Roderiques enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
She was involved in the community as a member of the N.A.A.C.P.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dwayne Nelson of New Bedford; 5 daughters, Robyn Nelson, Stacey Nelson and Kim Payne, all of New Bedford, Evelyn Nelson-Houser and her husband Brian of Perth Amboy, NJ and Tara Roderiques of Taunton; a sister, Florence Tavares of New Bedford; her cousin, James Rebeiro, who was like a brother to her; 8 grandchildren, Ashley Ahola, Bryce Houser, Jocelyn Nelson, Tyler Houser, Alexa Nelson, Miranda Nelson, Kayla Perez and Myles Nelson; 6 great-grandchildren; a niece, Lynne Tavares and 2 nephews, Antone Tavares and Ryan Tavares.
She was the grandmother of the late William S. "Booda" Payne, Jr.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday, April 6th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Saturday, April 4th from 4-8 PM. There will be no visiting hours on Easter Sunday.
