Maria Salome Raposa Fonseca passed away at the age of 97 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on March 30th, 2015. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, sister, and aunt who lived a long and beautiful life.
Salome was born on March 6th, 1918 in São Miguel, Azores to João and Rosa Raposa. She was the last of her fifteen siblings to pass away. She immigrated to Fall River, MA in 1958 with her late husband Jacinto Fonseca and her children, Adriana, Joseph, Ana, and Manuela. Throughout her many years in Fall River, she was an active member of her community, Saint Michael’s Church, and The Holy Rosary Society. She assisted and sponsored many family members in immigrating to the United States. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, crocheting, embroidering, praying the rosary, and spending time with her family and friends.
Her only son, Joseph, passed away in April of 2013.
Salome is survived by her three daughters, Adriana Medeiros (Somerset, MA), Ana Fonseca (Lexington, MA), Manuela Fonseca (Norwich, VT), eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on TUESDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael's Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
