Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY – Lucille J. “Lucy” (Gregoire) Thorpe, 91, of South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on January 29, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late I. Rene Gregoire and Yvonne (Frenette) Gregoire. She was raised in Holyoke and lived there until the 1950’s when she moved to Chicopee. In 1968, she moved to the Fairview section of Chicopee and lived there until moving to South Hadley in 1999. She was employed for many years by the former Ren Electronics in South Hadley. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she belonged to the Eucharistic Adoration Society. She was also a communicant of Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley where she belonged to their Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Hip’s Group in South Hadley. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, William H. Thorpe who was Called Home on June 23, 1991. She leaves her two loving children, Donald J. Thorpe and his wife, Eleanor, of South Deerfield and Nancy L. Landry and her husband, Ken, of South Hadley; her eight cherished grandchildren, Michael Thorpe, June Ovitt, Terry Haselton, Darlene Thorpe, Karen Superski, Paul Jozefczyk, William Jozefczyk and his wife, Rosa, and Richard Landry and his wife, Lisa; her 19 cherished great-grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Thorpe, Cassandra Ovitt, Gage Hoyt, Jared, Jacob and Jeremy Haselton, Joey Johnson, Willow, Jeb and Jesse Johansmeyer, Marie Garcia and her husband, Carlos, Kelly Hammond and her husband, Louis, Steven Kennedy, Belinda and Andrea Jozefczyk, and Jena, Emma and Abby Landry; her four cherished great-great-granddaughters, Gia Haselton, Lauryn and Alexis Garcia and Alaina Hammond; her dear brother, Lawrence Gregoire and his wife, Carla, of Whately; her dear sisters, Lorraine Colombe and her husband, Ronald, of Chicopee and Simone Normand of Belchertown; her dear sister-in-law, Cynthia Curran of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Thorpe and Gregoire families. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her four dear brothers, Amedee, Robert, Roland and Joseph Gregoire; and her four dear sisters, Theresa and Rachel Gregoire, Mary Jane Chouinard and Rita Boisjolie. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, April 2, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by the Liturgy of the Word at 10 a.m. in Saint Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley Falls, MA 01075. Her burial will follow the Liturgy at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
