Obituary

WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA - Henry L. Berkowitz, 96, husband of Eva L. (Brazzell) Mobley Berkowitz, of Winter Springs, Florida, formerly of Salem, MA, died at his home on Friday, March 20, 2015.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Fred and Fanny (Winer) Berkowitz. He has been a resident of Florida since the early 1990's.

An Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, Henry served with the Flying Tigers and served in China, India and Burma. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Two Battle Stars and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Henry was first employed as a machinist, then he was employed in the family business, Winer Bros Hardware in Salem, which he later owned for many years.

Henry was a Past Master of Essex Lodge, AF & AM of Salem.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ann Berkowitz of Winter Springs, Beverly Berkowitz of Salem, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (Robair) Berkowitz, a son, Alfred Berkowitz, brother, Sidney Berkowitz, sister, Nathalie Rothblatt and a grandson, Allen McIntosh.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 10 to11 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a service at 11.
