Obituary

Herbert F. TALLENT of Kennebunk, ME, formerly of Winthrop, Reading and Tewksbury MA passed away on March 25, 2015 at age 84.
Born in Boston on January 24, 1931, the second child of James and Catherine Tallent. He grew up an Irish kid from Potomac Street in West Roxbury, MA and attended church and schools at St Theresa’s Parish. He graduated from Boston Trade School in 1949 after which he joined the Naval Reserves out of Weymouth, MA.
He worked as a fireman in the Boiler Room for HP Hood and Sons for 17 years while attending night school for 10 to become an airline mechanic and worked as a mechanic for American Airlines for 21 years until retirement at age 60.
He was married to the lovely Constance Rutledge in 1953 and they had three children, Billy, Greg, and Linda. He and Connie loved going to Bermuda and did so often for over 20 years making wonderful friends there and were happily married for 34 year until her death in 1987.
He was blessed to have fallen in love with Sheila (DeVita) Tallent and to have a second wonderful family, joining two families together as one. They spent 26 years wonderful years together raising 13 beautiful grandchildren.
Sheila and Herb had the pleasures of traveling in retirement to Ireland, Hawaii, took a train ride across the Canadian Rockies and wintered in Long Boat Key FL for 20 years.
He loved the Bruins! and had season tickets for 25 years and saw them win the Stanley Cup on Mother's Day in 1970. He always said “Boston Bruins and Jack Daniels. Two great things on ice!”
Herb was very active with North Conway Railroad Club and he and Sheila established and organized many VP Association Naval Reunions at Hanscom Airfield Base.
He was the beloved husband of Sheila (DeVita) and the late Constance (Rutledge). Son of the late James W. Tallent and Catherine (McBride). Father of Bill Tallent and his wife Robin, Linda Tallent and the late Gregory Tallent. Stepfather of Donna Powers and her husband Ed, Michael DeVita, Sandra Anderson and her husband Wayne, Andrew DeVita and his wife Colleen and Diane Donaldson and her husband Todd. Brother of Eleanor Smalley and the late James Tallent. Grandfather of Kenny and Connie Perry, Brian, James and Tim Powers, Heidi and Jeffrey Anderson, Nick, Tom, Kristen and the late Matthew DeVita and Andrew, Nathan and Rachel Donaldson and many loving nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Sunday, March 29, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Monday, March 30, at 12 Noon from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury.
