Obituary


Alfred “Fred” Travers. Age 71. Husband of Mildred (Carvalho) Travers. Residence 48 Lucy Lane, Somerset, MA.
Died Tuesday at R.I. Hospital. Born in Fall River, MA. Son of the late Manuel Travers and the late Mary (Arruda)Travers. He was a Somerset resident for 32 years. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Johnson & Wales with a degree in Business Adm. He was a U.S. Air Force M/Sgt. serving in Korea and Viet Nam and receiving many awards. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 22 years. While serving in the Air Force, he worked aircraft maintenance and also was a Flight Engineer on the C141A Starlifter, flying many missions into Vietnam. He also served in Montana with the Minute Man mission. His last years were spent as an Academic Instructor on the C5A Galaxy hydraulic system at Altus AFB, OK. After retiring from the Air Force, he went to work for the U.S. Postal service as a Window Supervisor, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed music, bowling, and golfing, attending many Retired Military golf tournaments held at Myrtle Beach & Florida. He was a member of the Disabled Vets, Knights of Columbus, a member of RAFA, South End Club, and American Legion. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church.

Besides his wife of Somerset, he is survived by One Son: Scott A. Travers of Middletown, RI. Two Brothers: Louis Travers of North Carolina and Joseph Travers of Fall River, MA. One Sister:Adeline Carvalho of Tiverton, RI. Three Grandchildren and Several nieces.

His funeral, with Military Honors, will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 No. Main St., Fall River, MA on Friday with Private visitation 1 hour prior to the funeral mass in St. Thomas More Church, Luther Ave., Somerset, Ma. at 11:00 AM. Internment in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. There are no calling hours.
