Obituary

TAUNTON – Joseph Faria, 90, of Taunton, died peacefully at the Taunton Nursing Home on March 21, 2015, with his family by his side.
He was the husband of Evelyn (Martin) Faria, to whom he was married to for the past sixty-nine years.
Born in Taunton, Joe was the son of the late Manuel and Virginia (Ferris) Faria.
He was raised in Berkley and attended Bristol County Agricultural High School.
He later served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, where he was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.
He also competed as a heavyweight boxer and had a reputation for being “as tough as nails”.
Employed by Taunton State Hospital, where he was the President of the Union and a plumber, he retired many years ago.
Joe also enjoyed farm work and was a full-time farmer.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and soccer.
He will be remembered as a very kind and generous man.
In addition to his wife, Joe leaves a son, Michael Faria and his wife Donna of Taunton; two brothers, Manuel Faria of Taunton and Richard Faria of Berkley; a daughter-in-law, Linda Faria of Buzzards Bay; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Joey Faria and brother of the late Daniel and George Faria.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, March 26th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 25th from 4 to 8 p.m.
