William T. "Hymie" Doherty
Beloved husband, father and grandfather

TEWKSBURY: William T. "Hymie" Doherty, age 70, a resident of Tewksbury for 65 years, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Lowell General Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Donna L. (Burnham) Doherty, R.N., with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 8, 2015.
Born in Somerville on March 22, 1944, he was the son of the late William G. Doherty and the late Catherine A. (Wall) Doherty.
"Hymie" as he was known by friends and family, was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury High School in 1961.
He worked as a land surveyor for Troy & Associates of Tewksbury and in later years, he was employed as a courier by Saints Medical Center in Lowell.
"Hymie" enjoyed summering in Maine as well as on Martha's Vineyard.
In earlier years, he served as a coach in the Tewksbury Youth Baseball and Hockey Programs and was the first coach of the Tewksbury Youth Girl's Hockey Team.
"Hymie" will lovingly be remembered for his quick Irish wit, outgoing personality, and his love for his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived b y five children, Kerry L. Libby and her husband David of Westford, Robin M. McVey and her husband Robert and Kristin M. O'Keefe and her husband Sean all of Tewksbury, Shannon E. Woods and her husband David of Wilmington and William T. "BJ" Doherty, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Tewksbury; fourteen grandchildren, Sam, Jessica, Julia and Isabelle Libby, Robert, Elizabeth, and Catherine McVey, Abigail, Will and Benjamin O'Keefe, David and Danny Woods, Billy III and Sarah Doherty; two brothers, Francis "Buddy" Doherty and his wife Barbara(Daley) and Ed Doherty and his wife Kathryn (Maglio) all of Tewksbury; two sisters, Claire Doherty Penney of Tewksbury and Lorraine J. Lefebvre ad her husband Richard of Lady Lake, FL; his brother-in-law, Gary F. Burnham and his partner John of Vieira Beach, FL; his sister-in-law, Marilyn (Fulton) Doherty of Chelmsford; also many nieces and nephews.
"Hymie" was the brother of the late James M. Doherty, brother-in-law to the late Barry Sprague, Lawrence Burnham, and Jack Penney.

Calling hours are Sunday, March 22, from 3-7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Monday, March 23, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854.
