Theodora (Gaba) Evangelidis, 101, of Worcester formerly of Belmont, died March 16th in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of 35 years Louka Evangelidis died in 1969. She is survived by three sons, Kosma L. Evangelidis and his wife, Joyce of Peabody, George L. Evangelidis and his wife, Judy of Holden and Paul Evangelidis with whom she lived; five grandchildren, Lew Evangelidis, Donna Drohan, Kim Casella, Louis Evangelidis and Deirdre Capone and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.
She was born in Radove, Alabania, the daughter of Thomas and Maria (Notis) Gaba, and came to Douglas in 1935. Mrs. Evangelidis had been employed for 30 years as a spinner for Heyward-Schuster Woolen Mills, retiring in 1966. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Time spent with her family and trips to the homeland were a source of great joy; but the 80 years she had lived in the United States were often reflected on as the best years of her life.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care and support provided to our mother during her stay at Holy Trinity.
Her funeral is Thursday, March 19th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements. Please omit flowers and make memorial contributions to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral or to Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606.
