Obituary

Whitinsville – Emily A. (Carroll) Fahy, 89, of Whitinsville, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 15, 2015 after a long illness. She was the devoted wife of John E. Fahy for 41 years.

Emily was born on January 21, 1926, in Jamestown, NY, daughter of Angeline and James “Miti” Carroll. Moving to Massachusetts, Emily graduated from Watertown High School, married Charles Zicko and lived in Natick for many years. Emily was a long time active member and Sunday School teacher of the Annunciation Albanian Church in Natick. After marrying John Fahy in 1974, she moved to Whitinsville in 1977. She attended St. Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church in Weston and St Mary’s Orthodox Church in Worcester and was an active member of the Whitinsville Community Center.

Emily was employed with Jordan Marsh at Shopper’s World in Natick, several Framingham banks and, for many years, with Filene’s in Worcester. She was a talented seamstress, was skilled at knitting and crochet, and enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting most of the U.S. and Canada as well as Alaska, Hawaii and Japan. An excellent homemaker and cook, Emily was particularly skilled with traditional Albanian recipes that she served at many memorable and festive Holiday meals.

Emily is survived by her husband, John; a son, Paul Zicko and his wife Patricia of North Tewksbury; two daughters, Charlene Zicko of Norwood, and Desirée Zicko and her husband John Archibald of Reading; two grandsons, Zachary and Dante; a great-granddaughter, Ava; cousins Mary Potter, Olga Anas, and Mitchell Carroll; former husband Charles Zicko of Natick; and a large extended family.

The family wants to thank the CNAs – Liz Lowther, Chris Covino, and Janeen McKen - who lovingly cared for Emily over the last year. Thanks also for the comfort provided by the Salmon/ VNA Hospice nurses and CNAs.

Emily’s funeral will be held in the Annunciation Orthodox Church, 37 Washington Street, Natick, on Thursday, Mar. 19th at 10:30AM. Visiting hours will be at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Wednesday 4 – 7PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
