Maria R. "Mary" (Ramos) Groebe of New Bedford died March 14, 2015 at Sacred Heart Home after a period of declining health.
She was the wife of the late William T. Groebe and former wife of the late Joseph M. "Jiggs" Ramos.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Luis B. and Amelia (Almeida) Ramos, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Groebe was formerly employed as a nurse's aide in the maternity ward at St.Luke's Hospital and later was a paraprofessional at Kempton School and Parker School.
She was a member of the Cape Verdean Women's Social Club, Bisca Tournament Club, the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club and the Sokeno Club.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Kenneth Ramos and his wife Roberta and Jaime Ramos and his wife Angelina, all of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Adele Ramos and Mary Lyn Ramos, both of New Bedford; a step-son, Dr. Henry Groebe of New Bedford; a step-daughter, Jean Smith of New Bedford; a brother, John Ramos; 7 grandchildren, Brent, Kenneth, Karen, Shai, Jared, Kyle and Darcy; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Lois Ramos and the sister of the late Lucy Fortes, Joseph Ramos, Albert Ramos, Alves Ramos, Pauline Cruz, Julia Santos and Delia Gomes.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19th at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
