Susan C. Avila, 59 of Truro died peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, March 10th. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past few years. She leaves her partner of 12 years, Butch Lisenby.
Born in Worcester, daughter of Ralph L. and Margaret (Armendo) Amidon, she was the wife of the late Francis S. Avila, Jr. She graduated from Grafton High School.
Susan moved to Provincetown in 1975 and worked at the Mayflower Restaurant, Paparazzi’s, the Holiday Inn / Cape Inn, Montano’s and most recently, Riley’s Tee-Shirt Shop.
Susan had a passion for life! She walked 32 miles for the Lower Cape Relay for Life while she was undergoing treatment. She was an inspiration for many with the spirit of fighting her disease and her compassion. She was a source of support to her daughters, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was also known for her amazing cookies and her love of crafting. Often she could be seen helping her partner Butch shovel snow at the Provincetown Airport.
She was a Girl Scout Brownie leader in Provincetown for many years and spent time at the New England Drag way. She was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed watching them with her partner, Butch.
In addition to her partner and parents, she leaves daughters Christyne Avila Douglas of Truro, Brittany Avila and her partner Matt Zarate of Yarmouth and Kali Evirs and her husband Jim of Provincetown, as well as grandchildren Anthony Thomas of Provincetown, Ryleigh Zarate of Yarmouth, Sean and Aidan Evirs, both of Provincetown. Brothers Steve Amidon of Vermont, Donald Amidon of Hardwick and sister Laura Maynard of Grafton also survive her. She also leaves brother-in-law Michael Avila and sister-in-law Deb Avila. She was predeceased by a brother Ralph Amidon, Jr. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass to be held Saturday, April 11th at 10:00 am in St. Peter the Apostle Church, Prince St, Provincetown.
