Obituary

Iris B. Dorminy, 95, of Blackshear, Georgia, formerly of Fitzgerald, died Friday, March 13, 2015, in Blackshear at her niece’s residence.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, March 15, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 1:30 until service time, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Dorminy was born June 8, 1919, in Fitzgerald to the late Matthew “Mac” and Mattie Fountain Barnes. Her father, “Mac” Barnes, was the first known Sheriff of Ben Hill County. She was a personal caregiver who sat with many sick and elderly people in their homes and hospital through the years and was a homemaker. Mrs. Dorminy attended school in Fitzgerald and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include: Travis Wayne Raffield and wife Bonnie of Rutledge, Buddy Raffield of Ocilla, Faye Bradley of Blackshear and Dinah Dees and husband Owen of Tampa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman Dorminy, Jr.; son, James Larice Raffield; sister, Ruby Barnes, Opal Davis and Pearl Raffield.
