Obituary

Mildred G. (Gomes) Lopes, 97, of New Bedford passed away Thursday March 12, 2015 peacefully at home in her daughter's arms with her loving family surrounding her. She was the wife of the late Albert Lopes.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel and Sylvia (DaGrace) Gomes, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and maintained a lifelong family connection to the United House of Prayer which was founded by her uncle, the late Bishop Charles M. Grace.

Mrs. Lopes was formerly employed as an assembler at the Aerovox Corporation and later worked at the United Front Day Care Center.

She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club.


She was a superb cook, who enjoyed entertaining her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Marilyn L. Gonsalves of New Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

She was the sister of the late Antone Gomes, Olivia Gomes, and Grace Morris.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10 AM at the United House of Prayer, 419 Kempton St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
