Muriel Rhea Whelan – age 91 of East Freetown passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Donald C. Whelan.
Muriel was born in New Bedford, MA, daughter of the late Arthur & Anna Goguen. She worked at Pine Grove Pharmacy for many years. Muriel was a Eucharistic Minister for 12 years at St. Bernard’s Church in Assonet and for two years at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. She enjoyed being with her family and was an avid reader, she also enjoyed the company of the family dog, Midnight.
Her family includes her 2 children, Daniel Whelan and his wife Diane of East Freetown, MA and Sandra Whelan and her husband Bill McGann of Raynham, MA, four grandchildren, Matthew McGann and his wife, Katharine, Adam Whelan-McGann, Craig Soares and Jacob Soares and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Leo Goguen and Roger Goguen.
A Funeral Mass with her cremains present will take place on Saturday March 21, 2015 at St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Road, East Freetown, MA at 11:00 am. The family will be receiving relatives and friends prior to the mass at the church at 10:30 am. Private Burial of cremains will be done at a later date.
