Obituary

Paul L Hackett, 91, of Worcester died Thursday, March 12th in UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus. His wife of 46 years, Blanche E. (Cowee) Hackett died in 1997. He leaves a son, Thomas M. Hackett and his wife, Lisa of Paxton; three daughters, Frances A. Shepard and her husband, Robert of Worcester, Paula J. O’Connor and her husband, Timothy of Holden, Donna M. Ograbisz and her companion, Timothy Murphy of Worcester; a brother, John L. Hackett and his wife, Helena of Worcester; a sister, Catherine Hammond of Worcester; his close friend, Helen Wisner of Holden; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Paul L. Hackett, Jr.; a brother, William Hackett; and three sisters, Marie Callahan, Rita Gagnon and Eileen O’Connell.
He was born in Worcester son of William and Catherine (Shaughnessy) Hackett and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. Mr. Hackett was a member of the Worcester Police Department for 31 years retiring from the detective unit in 1987. A World War II United States Army veteran, he survived the Battle of the Bulge serving with the 8th Armored Division as a medic. Paul was a founding member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, a member of the Retired Police Association and the St. Andrew’s Men’s Club.
His funeral is Tuesday, March 17th with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street (Please go directly to church). Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. Calling hours are Monday, March 16th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
