NATICK: William Quirk, age 81, of Northborough, formerly of Natick, died peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He had been the devoted husband of Diane S. (Kerwin) Quirk, for 53 years.
Born in Boston, Bill was the son of the late William M. and Agnes (Thompson) Quirk. He was raised and educated in Quincy, continuing his education at Northeastern University. He entered the Army in 1953 and served for the duration of the Korean War. He held the rank of Corporal at the time of his separation.
Bill joined the New England Power Company as an engineer upon his return to Massachusetts. He and Diane married in 1962, making their home in Abington prior to settling in Natick in 1967. Bill stayed with the power company through its various incarnations, retiring just shy of 40 years service in 1994. He busied himself during retirement by hanging doors and windows part time for a longstanding Quirk Family business.
A golfer and Red Sox fan, Bill was also a dedicated model train enthusiast. He enjoyed time with his family, and remained positive and strong for them throughout his daunting illness.
He is survived by Diane; their daughters, Judith D. Marston and her husband Lawrence of Mansfield, and Jane E. Cote of Northborough; and grandchildren, Morgan, Dylan, and Tyler. He was also the brother of the late Marilyn Shanahan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 16th at 11:00AM in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday 2 – 5PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Amyloid Research Fund, Boston University School of Medicine, 72 East Concord St., K-503, Boston, MA 02118.
