Worcester/Holden- Wallace B. Adams, 92, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 9, 2015, at Worcester Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. His family would like to thank those who provided him with wonderful care for him in his last four months of life. Wallace was born in Vermont, son of the late Benjamin and Lillian Adams (Wilcox). Wallace leaves his brother Arnold Adams and his wife Rita, and a sister Virginia Mosher as well as many nieces and nephews; he is pre-deceased by brothers Frank and Bernard Adams, sisters Evelyn Storti and Madeline Calkins. Wallace, otherwise known as “Wally” previously lived in Holden for 59 years and Homestead Hall in Worcester for 2 ½ years, he enjoyed living at the rest home, and his time at Summit Elder Care on East Mountain St. Worcester, and all those who cared for him and were so kind to him at both places, thank you so much. Wally was a kind man, appreciative of everything people did for him, and when he was well, he was always ready to lend a helping hand where he could.
Wallace enlisted in the US Army in 1942, 449th Coast Artillery Battalion, as a weapons crewman, anti –aircraft artillery automatic. He received a medal of service on Normandy and an official Certificate of Registration to certify that his name is permanently inscribed on “The Wall of Liberty” as one of the courageous Americans whose sacrifice and commitment led to the liberation of the continent of Europe during WW II. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. He also received metals for Good Conduct, European/African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal. After returning home, he went to work for Hillcrest Dairy as a milkman, and was married in June of 1947 to Sarah " Claire" Fournier, who passed away in 1998. When Hillcrest Dairy closed, Wallace worked for Meola’s Dairy and retired from there. After retirement he worked part-time, for a few years, at a grocery store in Holden. Although a quiet man, Wally loved being around people! He also enjoyed visiting his cousin Dorothy Dufault and her husband Julian “Larry” Dufault, and being there to help out when Larry became ill. With them, he enjoyed going to Silver Sneakers and playing pool at Sims Gym. He will be greatly missed by Dick and Elaine (Dufault) Colbert, who have helped with Wally’s care since 2008, and loved him dearly. We feel privileged to have been involved in this caring, loving man’s life. Rest in peace Wobbly B. Adams, as you often, jokingly, called yourself. A Memorial Service for Wally will be at the ROBERT J. MILLER-CHARLTON FUNERAL HOME, 175 Old Worcester Rd. Charlton, MA. on Sunday April 12 from 3-4 PM. Burial services will be at a later date.
