Obituary

Boston – John Paul Murphy, Sr., 70, of Westport died Monday, January 17, 2005 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Mailloux) Murphy.

He was born in Somerset, a son of the late Thomas A. Murphy, Sr. and the late Lillian (Levesque) Murphy Whitmore and had resided in Westport for the past 21 years. Prior to retirement he was employed by Olin Chemical Company of Assonet and also worked for the Town of Westport for the Landfill Department. Mr. Murphy was an avid quahogger in the Westport River. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was an active member of the Somerset Progressive Fishing Club. He was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.

Including his wife, he is survived by 3 sons: John P. Murphy, Jr. of Deltona, FL, Robert J. Murphy of Fall River and John R. Mailloux of Fall River; 2 daughters: Patricia A. Dufour of Fall River and Lynda J. Mackenzie of Westport Point; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a friend of many.

He was the brother of the late Thomas “Allen” Murphy and the grandfather of the late Barry Murphy.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, Friday, January 21, 2005 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Thursday 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 P.M.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
