Mary L. (Nerney) Gravel, 76, a life long resident of North Andover, died at the Lawrence General Hospital on March 8, 2015.
She was born on January 4, 1939 in Lawrence, MA to James & Catherine (Murphy) Nerney she was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Lawrence. She worked for many years for New England Telephone as a telephone operator, and also in the Communications Department at the Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen for 25 years until her retirement. She worked part time at the Andover and North Andover YMCA. According to her family she loved to spend at the beach, she like to travel, crossword puzzles, knitting, she was an avid Red Sox & Patriots Fan, gardening, and most of all loved to spending time and hearing from her grand children. Her favorite holiday was St. Patrick's Day.
She leaves her loving husband of 54 years Robert J. Gravel Sr. her children Denise E. and her husband John Foley of Long Grove, IL, Donna M. Gravel of North Andover, Robert J. Gravel of Derry, NH, James S. and his wife Marie of North Andover, and Mark and his wife Christine of Pelham, NH. Grand children: Kim & Lauren Foley of Tempe, AZ, Colleen Foley of Columbia, MO, Nicholas Gravel of Derry, NH, Catherine and Joshua Gravel of Pelham, NH. Also her brother: Michael and his wife Carlene Nerney of Durham, NH In-laws Mary Nerney of Bedford, MA, Jerry Gravel of Rochester, NH, Olive Gravel and Bill Davison of Milford, NH. As well as several nieces, nephews & cousins. She is predeceased by her daughter; Claire Ann Gravel, brothers; James and Paul Nerney and her sister; Regina Carrien.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10:30AM at St. Michael Church in North Andover, MA. A burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home Inc. 35 Merrimack Street, North Andover, MA.
