Joseph H. "KiKi" Fernandes, Jr., 78, of New Bedford died Wednesday March 4, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in Wareham, the son of the late Joseph H. and Rose (Babbitt) Fernandes, he lived in Boston and New Bedford for many years.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Fernandes was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford Department of Public Works until his retirement.
Mr. Fernandes served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association.
Survivors include a son, Brent Auger of Dartmouth; four sisters, Elizabeth Kinder of Dartmouth, Judith Fernandes of Worcester, Olga Bence Williams of New Bedford, and Irene Emerson of Chicago; a grandson; and nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Daniel and Belmiro Fernandes.
A private funeral service was held on Monday morning at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
