NATICK – Joseph O. E. Foster, age 80, of Natick died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 8, 2015 after a period of declining health. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was the devoted husband of Nancy T. (Visconti) Foster for 56 years and a Natick resident for over 45 years.
Born and raised in Watertown, Joe was the son of the late Joseph E. Foster, Sr. of New Jersey and Rose M. (Zaino) Foster of Watertown. After graduating from Watertown High School in 1954, Joe served in the US Army’s Signal Corps during the Korean War (1954-1956). He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
While living in Waltham, Joe worked as a cosmetologist at various salons, including Beauty Gardens on Moody Street. He also worked for many years at Zayre Department Store. After moving to Natick, he worked as a security guard for various companies, including Perini Corporation in Framingham. He was a member of St. Patrick Parish in Natick and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his daughter, Theresa A. Foster of Natick and Gainesville, FL and her life partner, Michael P. Allard. He is also survived by his niece, Maria Moniz of Framingham, and other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe was happiest when he was taking care of his home and family. He adored his pet birds. In the past, he enjoyed cooking, photography, gardening, and fixing cars. In recent years, he enjoyed a wide variety of arts and crafts, and participated in the Natick Center Art Walk in July, 2014.
The Foster family would like to thank all of the people and organizations that helped us care for Joe during his period of illness, including Whitney Place Adult Day Health, Natick Veteran Services, BayPath Elder Services, the Natick VNA and Metrowest Homecare and Hospice.
Joe's funeral will be held from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Wednesday, March 11th at 9:30AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Patrick Church, 44 E, Central St., Natick. at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
Visitation prior in the funeral home from 8:30-9:30AM. Internment will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
