Obituary

Whitman – William Charles Horney, 85, died Thursday February 26 after a long period of failing health surrounded by his loving family including his two surviving siblings Margaret Hurley and Henry Horney.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Edwin and Jeannette (Metzler) Horney. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert, Edwin and Francis and his sister Jeannette Disbrow.

Mr. Horney was married for many years to the former Marie (Richmond). He later met and married “the love of his life” Alice (Farrell). After she passed away in 1983, he resided with his brother Henry for thirty-two years.

He had proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War.

He was employed for many years by the former Pender Company, a manufacturer of sporting goods based in Boston.

In his youth he was an avid dancer and had frequently danced at Mosley’s on the Charles.

He enjoyed swimming, playing cards and spending time with his family. He loved to travel and he, along with his brother Henry, had treated some of their many nieces and nephews (over fifty spread through three generations) to various trips around the country. He will be greatly missed by all of them.

His funeral service will be held Saturday March 14 at 11 AM in the All Saints Church, 44 Park Ave., Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte.58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
