Obituary

Philip Ross Farrington, 93, passed away peacefully Friday, February 27, 2015, at the Wesley Healthcare Center of Saratoga Springs, NY. He was born on October 12, 1921 in Sherman Mills, ME, a son of the late Willis S. and Emma V. (Jones) Farrington. He is survived by four daughters, Joanne Fulmore and her husband Joe of Plaistow, NH, Shirley McFarland and her late husband Arnold of Raymond, NH, Robin Murphy and her partner Jack Hughes of Malta, NY, and Terri Clotworthy and her husband Richard of Ballston Spa, NY; step-daughters, Jewell McLaughlin and Cynthia Van Heck, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara L. (Burdette) Farrington in 2000.
The second youngest of twelve children, Phil helped work the family farm after completing the 8th grade. Philip proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He began his work career as a machinist at the Naval Shipyard in Bath, ME. In 1955, he began his career in the nuclear industry as a machinist and eventually became a supervisor then a superintendent responsible for directing the installation of reactor vessels in nuclear submarine prototypes and component installations of power plants in Groton, CT, Idaho Falls, ID, and West Milton, NY for Electric Boat, Bremerton, WA for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Perry, OH for Newport News Industrial Corporation. Philip also owned and operated 2 successful garage/gas stations in Northwood and Manchester, NH. Philip retired working for EG & G at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL as a manager of project /field engineering. He was responsible for overall performance of all NASA subcontracts and high visibility contracts.
Phil and Barbara loved traveling across the country. Camping and fishing were things they truly enjoyed.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. Burial will be held in the spring by the family at Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry, NH. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home or contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans P.O.
