LEO J. MAHONEY, JR., age 74, a Hingham resident for almost 50 years, died on Wednesday, Jan. 12th at the Cohasset Knoll Nursing Home in Cohasset after a brief illness. Mr. Mahoney was born in Boston and was raised and educated in Quincy.
Mr. Mahoney served with the United States Navy in the late 1940's. He was a well known and respected police officer in the Town of Hingham for 34 years, retiring in 1995. For many years he also served as the Safety Officer for the Hingham School Department.
After his retirement from the Hingham Police Department, he became a security officer at the Notre Dame Academy in Hingham until his recent illness.
He was active with the youth of Hingham as a coach with Hingham Youth Baseball and with the Hingham Girls Athletic League.
Husband of the late Evelyn C. (Gibbs) Mahoney, he leaves his children; Michael A.J. Mahoney of Goffstown, NH, Kathleen M. Bogan of Duxbury, Mary T. Carlucci of Plymouth, Patrick J. Mahoney and Theresa A. Kachmar both of Hingham. Brother of Patricia Mahoney of Weymouth and Edward Mahoney of Las Vegas, NV. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The funeral services and interment are to be private. Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.
