NEW BEDFORD — David Jaime Gomes, 70, of New Bedford passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 after a brief illness. A son of the late Jaime and Clara (Fortes) Gomes, he was a graduate of New Bedford High School. Mr. Gomes was retired from Morgan Technical Ceramics where he worked for 35 years. H served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1968.
An avid collector of classic rock music, he possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre. Mr. Gomes also enjoyed watching old westerns and was a Twilight Zone and Star Trek fan. He rooted for the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics. His extensive baseball hat collection reflected those interests. An incessant reader, his favorite author was Stephen King.
Mr. Gomes is survived by a sister, Janis Gomes of New Bedford, a brother Andre Gomes and his wife Cheryl of Sandwich, MA, two nieces Bethany and Nicole, two aunts and numerous cousins. Contributions in his memory may be made to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 2003-1193. A celebration of his life will be held later in the year
